Abstract

This project aims to study the viability of use sugar cane bagasse ash (SCBA) as raw material in the production of binary systems of sugar cane bagasse ash/blast furnace slag activated with sodium and potassium hydroxide solutions. The SCBA is obtained from an auto-combustion process and, its chemical and physical properties will be assessed by means of X ray fluorescence (XRF), loss of ignition (LOI), particle size diameter and X ray diffraction (XRD). Moreover, the compressive strength of alkali-activated mortars with different percentages of blast furnace replacement (0, 25, 33 and 50%, in mass) will be assessed after 7, 28 and 90 curing days at room temperature. It is expected that SCBA can present a high degree valorization when employed for this purpose. (AU)
