Abstract

Against the background of previous research (Matarezio Filho, 2015a, 2015b) on the initiation ritual of females Ticuna Indians (AM), called Festa da Moça Nova, this project aims to continue this search for a new approach. I intend to describe and analyze the emotional and bodily changes of the girls when go through this ritual. The research could be summarized in the following questions: how the girls and their relatives perceive the change of neophytes after undergoing the ritual? What were the old and new attitudes, affections, feelings and values expected of the girls initiated? What is the role of counseling and body manipulations of neophytes in the production of this mature affectivity, given that the ritual prepares the girls for marriage? Everything indicates that one of the intentions of the rite is to make a "symbolic castration" (Leach, 1983 [1958]) of the girls and "liquefy" (Siran, 2002) anguish, anxiety, aggression and possible sexual repression that could be undertaken in the initiated.
