Abstract

Inflammation is a complex immune response related to tissue damage and/or cell caused by chemical, physical, immunological or microbial stimuli and has aimed to take the resolution of tissue damage. The inflammation is usually regulated by a cascade of molecular interactions and biochemical reactions and mature responsible for propagating the inflammatory response, involving the local vascular system, the immune system and various types of cells. The pain appears due to the direct effects resulting mediators of both initial damage as the inflammatory response. Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) are a group of more than 20 drugs, which enjoy broad clinical application and have heterogeneous chemical compounds structures, which demonstrate efficacy for the treatment of pain and inflammation. The indiscriminate and continuous use of NSAIDs may lead to adverse effects including gastrointestinal disorders, gastric ulcers, renal toxicity, cardiovascular disorders and central nervous system. The discovery and development of new drugs continue to be a challenge and despite major advances in understanding the molecular mechanisms involved in pain and inflammation, current therapies are largely inadequate because they have severe side effects and limited efficacy. The use of phytocomplex can be an alternative for the treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases. The species Cordia verbenacea DC and Pterodon pubescens Benth. are popularly used in the treatment of various inflammatory diseases and the association of these two plants showed a real synergistic effect, with significant antinociceptive response and especially anti-inflammatory forward in vivo experimental models, showing better pharmacological effects and prolongation of activity, with lowest effective doses of each extract when used in associations. These results were achieved in the master project "Evaluation of the synergistic effect in antinociceptive activity and anti-inflammatory dichloromethane extract of Pterodon pubescens Benth. seeds and the essential oil of Cordia verbenacea DC”. Therefore, to continue the results obtained previously, the overall objective of this project is the standardization and implementation of new pharmacological models for the study of anti-inflammatory activity of the association of crude dichloromethane extract of the fruits of Pterodon pubescens Benth. and the essential oil of leaves of Cordia verbenacea DC, through animal models and in vitro assays, for understanding the mechanisms of action and cell signaling involved, in addition to the quantification of the active compounds present in mixtures and design of pharmaceutical systems.
