Abstract

Obesity is recognized as a growing public health problem and that has affected more and more younger people , given the changes in lifestyles and eating habits .Goals: benchmark overweight ( BMI e 25 and d 29.99 ) or obese ( BMI over 30 ) with individuals with weight within the normal pattern ( BMI e18.5 and d 24.99 ) , as the self-reported aspects gingivitis, periodontal disease, oral hygiene , tooth loss and halitosis. Methods: The sample will consist of 400 university students of three higher education institutions. A questionnaire involving demographics, anthropometric and oral/periodontal conditions ( GENCO questionnaire Modification, 2007) will be applied. The results will be presented descriptively in tables and graphs. Will be applied to bivariate analysis and logistic regression. The significance level of 5 % is assumed. Expected results: Check the self- perception of college students regarding your general and oral health status through a questionnaire. In addition to listing the perception of periodontal conditions with obesity. The study may guide future studies comparing the self- perception of the problem and the presence of the actual outcome.
