Abstract

This Project aims to investigate the linguistic characteristics of Gilberto Mendes's Music Theater. Is intended to observe the forms of relationship between Music and Theater created by him in works of different periods and characteristics, and thus understand his compositional language for the genre. To this end, will be used as an analytical tool an adaptation of the concept of Intermediality, from the categories proposed by Irina Rajewsky (2012) and Claus Clüver (2006). Allied to intermedial analysis, will also be used as an analytical tool the three basic models of multimedia analysis proposed by Nicholas Cook (1998). By applying your similarity and difference tests, will be possible understand the play of forces and polarization existing in Mendes's music theaters as well as understand the network of meanings in your works. Intermediality and Multimedia relates to forms of relationship between "media"; should note that both authors use the term "media" to refer both electronic and digital media, for the general artistic expressions. Using these tools, the Gilberto Mendes's Music Theater can be understood from the perspective that values the inter/multimedia relations present in its constitution. Thus, the research will place the composer as one of the genre's creators and expand the discussion around his work, can provide support for researchers work who are interested in works which use the interdisciplinarity and process of music theory and analysis as a whole.
