Abstract

The industrial sector is one of the fastest causes damage to the environment due to the release of their effluents into water bodies. Indeed, industrialization grows every day and, therefore, it is necessary to reduce the pollution levels even with increased production. In this context, due to the difficulties that Brazil is facing with the production of drinking water in various regions, the launch of these becomes an aggravating situation. Within this context, this proposed research project aims to employ waste polyurethane foams in the preparation of new adsorbents cationic for the treatment of wastewater, whose composition has dissolved metals. This process becomes important because of the lack of theme approach in Brazil, thus contributing to the improvement in this area of the search field .The immobilization of organic groups of different acids such as p-aminobenzoic acid and L-cysteine will be made chemically by activating with glutaraldehyde foam. The novel adsorbents are characterized by determining the content of nitrogen in its chemical structure as well as the determination of the maximum capacities of adsorption of inorganic cations versus time of concentration. The application of the new methodology will be evaluated percolating up quantities of water with known levels of inorganic cations concentrations, as Pb, Zn, Cu and Ni, through columns packed with the referred adsorbent.
