Abstract

This research will shed light on the processes of musical education through piano instruction applied in São Paulo state. Questionnaires will be handed out to professionals in Schools of Music and Conservatories in order to find out which methodologies and pedagogies are applied in those musical institutions. It will also verify the musical background of the instructors and its relation to their teaching performance. Instructors who apply modern music methodologies and pedagogies will be interviewed. The research will also analyze the possible benefits of those modern methodologies, its results, and the degree of musical development of the students involved in it. The main objective is to outline which pedagogies are used nowadays, which contributions of active methodologies to piano instruction are, and their effectiveness. Finally, the results will try to elucidate which methodologies and pedagogies are being applied on piano instruction in the state of São Paulo, and how is the teaching performance of piano instructors.
