Abstract

The abuse of alcohol is an important part of the chronic diseases that kill most in Brazil. The alcohol-related problems, however, are not restricted to dependent patients and is also associated with usage patterns considered "risky". General Objectives: To estimate the prevalence of quantity and frequency of excessive use of alcohol including intoxication, separated by gender the data collected. Specific Objectives: 1-To evaluate the patterns of alcohol use between men and women in the different contexts in which they occur. 2-Analyze the social and gender differences in relation to heavy use of alcohol and 3-evaluate how different socio-cultural factors predict alcohol use male and female and associated problems. Method: Cross-sectional study of type epidemiological survey in a stratified and representative sample in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, which sample will consist of approximately 1.250 people over 18 years old and less than 60 years old. Data collection will be done by applying the Questionnaire "Genacis Harm to Others" in interviews in selected households of which analyze a piece. The results will be compared by the usual tests of proportions using the binomial distribution or normal approximation. In all analyzes will be fixed as probability of error of first kind the alpha value of 5%. Result: The specific information about the prevalences of alcohol consumption by men and women associated factors may contribute to the formation of effective policy responses and in preventing or treating
