Abstract

Background: The cost for the treatment of infertility limits the access to the treatment, especially considering that couples frequently undergo several treatments before achieving pregnancy. There are alternative protocols for controlled ovarian stimulation (COS), including the use of oral and low-cost medications, reducing the number of injections and the risk of adverse events, particularly ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. Objective: The objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a simplified and low-cost COS, by estimating the number of oocytes retrieved. Methods: This study will be conducted at a university hospital. The inclusion criteria are women scheduled to COS with age between 18 and 40 years old, weight < 90 kilos and antral follicle count (AFC) d 9. We plan to include 20 women with AFC between 9-19 and 20 women with AFC e 20 who will be submitted to COS combining oral letrozole (LTZ), clomiphene citrate (CC) and subcutaneous corifollitropin alfa. Our main outcome will be the number of oocytes retrieved; we will also evaluate the proportion of mature oocytes, the fertilization and cleavage rates. All oocytes and embryos obtained will be cryopreserved to be used later.
