Functional capacity and quality of life of elderly people registered in the Family Health Strategy

Abstract

The objectives of this study will describe the sociodemographic profile of the elderly through a cross-sectional study with 516 residents in the areas confined to the Family Health Strategy in the Great Santos Reis district, Montes Claros-MG and associate their quality of life to the level of functional capacity. The data will be used from the survey "Prevalence and factors associated with functional capacity of the elderly in the Family Health Strategy in Montes Claros, Minas Gerais, Brazil" developed by graduate student in Dentistry, Public Health research area at the University of the Sacred Heart , Valnei Gomes de Assis, in the years 2011/2012. The questionnaires of sociodemographic characteristics, living conditions and perception of their own economic situation were applied; the evaluation of the functional capacity and quality of life WHOQOL-OLD and WHOQOL-Bref. In the statistical analysis, the domains of WHOQOL-BREF and WHOQOL-OLD facets will be analyzed separately and consolidated with their syntax. Categorical variables will be analyzed using absolute and relative frequencies. To compare the groups (suitable functional capacity and inadequate) will use the Student t test at a significance level of 5%.
