Abstract

The lack of preclinical studies on the effects of ketamine, when administered continuously, as well as the possible emergence of withdrawal symptoms after the abrupt cessation of its use, are issues still little discussed in the literature. Studies in this line of research makes it even more necessary in light of the increased use among young people who, as a rule, commonly use this drug jointly with other substances, particularly with central nervous system stimulants. This project aims to fill part of this deficiency by analyzing the influence of the chronic effects of ketamine on contextual conditioned tolerance and the subjacent changes on the he neurochemical levels of 5-HT, DA and their metabolites of the infralimbic cortex and nucleus accumbens shell, brain regions mainly involved in the motivational aspects of drug use and abuse.
