Abstract

Even being known for over a century, silver nanoparticles (AgNP) have only been explored more extensively in the last few decades in view of its potential to be applied in the biomedical and biological fields, as well as in the consumer goods sector. In this project, we intend to explore a synthetic route involving the orange peel extract in the biosynthesis of AgNP and more specifically the reduction and/or stabilizing potential of the flavonoid hesperidin. Considering that chemical and biophysical interactions of biomolecules are necessary for the stabilization of nanoparticles, several techniques will be used for the characterization of these macromolecules, such as emission fluorescence, infrared spectroscopy (IR), gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE), gel filtration chromatography, mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR of 1H and 13C). Finally, the antimicrobial activity of the silver nanoparticles will be studied using strains of Xanthomonas, which include bacteria responsible for agricultural pests such as the citrus canker in orange plantations, that causes large damages in the Brazilian agriculture production.
