Abstract

This project aims to analyze the criteria that are used in the search for love and/or sex partners among men in two different periods: (a) before the appearance of HIV-AIDS epidemic and the advent of the internet by "Lampião da Esquina" newspaper and (b) after the epidemic and expansion of commercial internet through the Hornet® application. The research will be established in two stages: (1) through the "Lampião da Esquina" newspaper - aired in Brazil at the time of relaxation of censorship by the military regime - through the columns "troca-troca" and "cartas na mesa" (April 1978 to June 1981) and (2) from an analysis of the profiles currently used by Hornet® application, which have equivalent ages and residence to those found in newspaper ads. The specific objectives are to suggest about what has changed in love, sexual and personal expectations for men that seeking other men; as the search for emotional and/or sexual partners began to articulate desires, market, work, leisure and forms of subjectivity with new collective ideals. Therefore, I intend to investigate through the descriptions given in the respective columns (a) and application (b), the intersecting cleavages in search (race, ethnicity, generation, social class, education and location) and check the processes, mediations and dilemmas that modulate the loving and sexual expectations, above all, the centrality of "sex appeal" and body as features imbued with socioeconomic elements and emerging cultural characteristics; As the researchers have seen in other contexts as the "new economy of desire" or "new ecology and loving architecture". The methodology used consists of document analysis and online profiles. To build the theoretical reflection, this research articulates references in studies about digital media, gender and sexuality. Reflect on the social and historical conditions that shape the search for partners in different periods and in different generations not only mark this project as also creates elements to think about the relation between sexuality and technology, commodization of intimacy, about the formation of status criteria and the development of relational spaces that organize, segment, visualizes and scale the desire.
