Abstract

In this Project, the investigation objects are the non-formal uses of commas in first years of Junior High School texts. The research advances in relation to other studies on the subject by investigating narrative texts of a same group of students from the Junior High School initial cycle. The objective to be achieved is to characterize the non-formal uses of commas, either on the syntactic structures where the commas occurs, and either on the prosodic boundaries that these commas may be associated to. The research hypothesis is that the commas are the linguistic expression of a symbolic process of the representation between speech and writing.
