Abstract

The severity of asthma is determined by the amount of medication used and the symptoms persisted. The severity ranges from 1 to 5, 1 when there is need to use short-lived brochodilator, to 5 the use of inhaled corticosteroid in high doses and anti leukotriene, namely, severe asthma. It is known that the severity of asthma is related to quality of life, being worse the more severe the disease. However, little has been evaluated on the correlation of the severity of the disease with functional capacity. Objective: to evaluate the functional capacity according to severity of the disease in asthmatic children and adolescents; and to correlate the severity of the disease with functional capacity. Method: it will be recruited patients with clinical diagnosis of asthma and in monitoring and regular treatment. It Will be included patients aged between seven and 15 years, with a diagnosis of asthma in medical treatment and with asthma under control, according to the determinations described in GINA. It Will be deleted those who fail to carry out the evaluations of the Protocol, which interrupt the medical follow-up or treatment drug, which present acute lung infection or other chronic lung disease, or with other Comorbidities (Neuropathies, heart) and those smokers. To spirometry and the following variables are recorded: forced vital capacity (FVC), FEV1, and VEF1/CVF. The shuttle walk test (SWT) test will be performed in a 10 m according to the original description. The SWT will be done twice in one day, with a 30-minute rest between them. The beginning and end of the test will be evaluated heart rate, blood pressure and feeling tired in the lower limbs and Dyspnea by Borg scale. The SpO2 will be monitored continuously during the test. Expected results: we wait to observe the correlation between the severity of the disease and the reduction of functional capacity.
