Abstract

The Luminárias Nappe is located in the southern portion of the Brasília Orogen or in the interference zone between Ribeira and Brasilia belts. The present work focuses on the metamorphic characterization of the rocks of the Luminárias region that is composed by high aluminum pelites and quartzites. And this work aims to carry out a metamorphic characterization on both of these rocks. The metapelites of Luminárias Nappe fall in the field of high Al pelites. These rocks show mineral assemblages that differ from those of pelites from the classic barrovian series, since biotite is not crystalized under greenschist and amphibilite facies. The metamorphism of the Luminárias Nappe increases from north (greenschist facies) to South (amphibolite facies) Metamorphic studies have previously been carried out in this area. However, they did not include modern techniques like, pseudosections, and trace-element geothermobarometers, such as Zr-in-Rutile and Ti-in-Quartz. The new data will favor discussion about the interference zone between Brasilia and Ribeira belts, shedding light into the formation of southern São Francisco Craton Region.
