Abstract

The project aims to study the Brazilian television series in aspects concerning their formats and genres with the goal of establishing a critical analysis of transformations regarding the structure and thematic standards, both in globalization and transnationalization TV contexts. More specifically, I intend to investigate if and how themes, visual and verbal languages and narrative structure of Brazilian series merge with features of international TV series. The qualitative approach will be adopted, using the case study technique in order to discuss narratives components of Brazilian broadcasting series, and analyze how their relations faces the tensions with both national and transnational in the globalized television formats scenario. The research will use theoretical and analytical tools of television studies and Discourse Analysis (DA) from French origin. It will be asking, throughout the research and analysis, which are the elements or ways to create and produce changes regarding formats and themes in narratives of Brazilian TV series. The timeframe of the study is the period between the years 2010 and 2015. The growing production of series during this period, both in terms of broadcast television as well as cable television, justifies such option. In addition, the research aims to provide theoretical and practical basis to courses taught in undergraduate and graduate studies at ECA-USP, contributing to the Communication studies and, in particular, for television fiction studies.
