Abstract

José Zanine Caldas was important in the Brazilian architecture and design field for exploring plastically quality of Brazilian materials using his skills of hand crafting to improve architectural projects. He is recognized by specialists as the most versatile and complete designer of São Paulo’s modern period, being the documental study and analysis of his work of extreme importance. His time spent in University of São Paulo resulted in pioneer experiences with materials such as plywood, what made possible the development of the design field in Brazil. Furthermore, his methods related to hand crafts became a reference as Zanine encouraged his students to experiment new techniques of developing architecture and design projects. To study José Zanine Caldas is important as Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo has documentation on him which need analysis, sorting and catalogation.
