Abstract

This research is articulated to the International Cooperation Agreement USP / UP, from the Institute of Architecture and Urbanism (IAU.USP) and the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP), whose project is entitled "Architecture, Design and Representation: drawing's methodologies on the teaching of design". One of the project's objectives is the study of Brazilian and Portuguese architect's production whose work processes reflect particular qualities in relation to the design and architecture practice. This research is also a deepening of the undergraduate research project developed by the researcher from August 2011 to July 2012, funded by CNPq. Under the title "The use of physical model as reading tool of cultural heritage", the survey had as its object of study the E1 Building, authored by Ernest Mange and Hélio Duarte, related to Sao Paulo's architecture. Another link between the two surveys is the representations forms in architecture. The professional architect has at his disposal various means of representing the project, the idea: drawing, physical model, digital model, these elements that may or may not mix and thus compose a projective method specific to each. In the first study, gave emphasis to the physical model as a representation's form that approach people and the building, considered historic and cultural heritage of the city of São Carlos - SP. The research seeks to explore ways and means of projective representation as a contribution to the discussion of the role of drawing (language and representation) in architectural design and architectural education today. For this, intends to examine ways of representing three generations of Bratke family architects: Oswaldo Arthur, Carlos and Barbara, trying to understand the continuities and changes in projective method from one generation to another. It is intended to collect and organize the Oswaldo Arthur Bratke's graphic material, which is currently in the library collection of FAU.USP. The purpose is also to contact Carlos and Barbara Bratke, analyzing ways of representation used by each. Still not made a selection of works, however, the objective is to choose some significant works of architects in order to facilitate appropriate comparisons. Will be adopted as the method of comparative historical research, since it is three objects of study, who were part of the history of Brazilian architecture from the 1930s. (AU)
