Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Clinical studies show that properly prescribed psychotropic medications are effective for controlling and reducing symptoms and suffering caused by mental disorders, however, his inappropriate and abusive use can cause undesirable side effects and addiction, leading to difficulties when you want a break treatment, and unnecessary spending for the health sector. It is then necessary studies to investigate the prevalence, associated factors, and monitor the trend of psychotropic use in order to support the actions of pharmaceutical care policy to promote rational use and prevention of the consequences of abuse. To analyze the epidemiological profile, the associated factors and the temporal trend of the use of psychotropic drugs in the resident population in the urban area of the city of Campinas. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a transversal population-based study that will examine non-institutionalized individuals aged 10 years or more, in the sample of the Survey ISACamp 2014/15 (Process FAPESP 2012 / 23324-3). The dependent variable of the study will be the use of any psychotropic medication in the 15 days preceding the interview. To identify associated factors will be analyzed the following sets of independent variables: demographic and socioeconomic, health-related behaviors, health status and morbidity and well-being indicators and violence. For the analysis of temporal trends will be used in addition to the ISACamp 2014/15 survey data applied in 2001/2002 and 2008/2009. Proportions and prevalence will be estimated according to independent analyzes performed simple regression and multiple Poisson variables. Data analysis will be performed using the Stata 13.0.
