Abstract

Tissue engineering enables the restoration of an organ or tissue damaged by diseases, trauma or even by the aging process, through a combination of cells and materials. Within this context, three-dimensional printers (3D) appear as an affordable alternative in the development of models and implants to be employed in regenerative medicine field. The purpose of this study is to use 3D printer technology to obtain bone substitutes for reconstruction of critical segmental defect in rabbits' radio. For this research, 60 New Zealand rabbits will be submitted to a segmental ostectomy on the right radio. The animals will be divided into three groups. The graft group (GI n=20) in which the animals will receive autologous graft for the bone defect reconstruction. The implant group (GII n=20) where the defect will be restored with hydroxyapatite implants printed in a three-dimensional printer and the control group (GIII n=20) where the animals will be submitted to ostectomy and receive no surgical treatment. The implants obtained by the 3D printing will be based on the CT image from the animals member (right radio). The subjects of this study will be clinically evaluated daily. Radiographs, bone densitometry and histopathological exams will be performed at the 15, 30, 60 and 90 day postoperative, according to the subgroups P1(15 days), P2 (30 days), P3 (60), P4 (90). (AU)
