Abstract

Based on the study of St. Francis of Assisi images, the current project is about the importance of the research be held partly in Italy, since the country is home to the works of the art selected for analysis and where Francis lived. Conscious of the fact that the sensory involvement with the image is not restricted to the visual field - other human senses are involved in that relationship - we invoke the definition of materiality in order to understand the interdependence between the work and the body of the observer. Although the current technical resources allow instant access and, sometimes, the quality of images, the full sensory involvement requires direct contact with them - in this context, the spaces are very important for better understanding of the work. Likewise, we stress the value of immersion in the culture from which follows the central theme of research, since in the assigned reading of images the correlation between form and content is essential. The university living in Italy, the consultation of collections, visits to museums, churches and chapels, as well as the Italian language learning are some of the elements that ensure greater engagement with the culture of the country.
