Abstract

Literature review on psychological development in early childhood shows particular emphasis on dyadic relations between mother and baby. However, some researchers have been also devoted to study relations between father, mother and baby and their psycho-affective interactions as a triad. These studies became relevant because they made possible to break up stereotypes which defined rigorously e dichotomously how care should be undertaken by mothers and fathers. Thus, the emergence of parental care based on shared responsibilities in contemporary families has performed new relational dynamics that worth investigation. The present study aims to analyse dyadic and triadic interactions between the baby's sixth and ninth months old. The following aspects will be analysed: triadic interactions, associations between observations and current literature on new family configurations, and social, economic and demographical factors related to São Paulo and Maceió, the cities where the selected families live. To achieve this purpose, the psychoanalytic observational method of mother-baby relationship (or Esther Bick Method) will be adapted to triadic interactions. The method is composed of daily observations of two father-mother-baby triads and will be complemented by interviews performed with fathers and mothers and.
