Abstract

The increase in life expectancy promotes the increase in the number of elderly people living in retired status. The literature suggests that the transition to retirement presents impacts positive and negative for the individual, since it may enables the feeling of freedom after years living under a certain routine and also the feeling of uselessness. The work is seen as the main individual identity construction factor, that is, the essence of human life and social relations. Furthermore, it is seen like the personal reference, a source of significance for the self-description. When the time to retire approaches, workers feel like they lose their "role" in society. It is known that institutions and employees often do not develop post-career planning, which can further complicate the process of adjustment to life retired. Thus, this research aims to identify the perception of professionals from public and private companies about retirement, in order to identify the variables that interfere in the process, to improve the planning retirement and decrease the negative impacts.
