Abstract

The recent development of titanium alloys for orthopedic implants application is directly linked to beta alloys. Several studies have been showing the consolidation capacity of these alloys in the area due to the high biocompatibility mainly associated with the absence of toxic and allergenic elements, besides the mechanical behavior compatible with orthopedic applications. The Elastic Modulus more similar to the bone attenuates the stress shielding phenomenon, which implies in a classic early implant failure problem. This work aims at the study of the microstructure and static mechanical properties of the commercial TMZF titanium alloy, mechanically processed in the beta phase field. After mechanical forming for different levels of plastic deformation and annealing thermal treatment, the alloy will be evaluated by comparing to the microstructural and property requirements established in the ASTM F1813 Standard.
