Abstract

It has been well established that the number and/or activity of the gastrointestinal microbiota can be manipulated by diet, but little data have been provided using high-throughput molecular techniques in dogs, especially in those consuming prebiotics added on diets and none assay correlated the data to immune system response. Therefore, this study will be conducted to gain more knowledge about how gastrointestinal microbial populations of healthy dogs are impacted by diets with increasing levels addition of yeast with active metabolites. At the end, this data will complement the results of the main project, making possible a more comprehensive and thorough evaluation of the effects of microbiota on the immunity. This purpose will be only viable using innovative Illumina Fluidigm Array Technology available at the Department of Animal Sciences in the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
