Influence of the use of topical and systemic substances in the pro-inflammatory neuropeptides expression after bleaching treatment

Abstract

The in-office tooth bleaching may cause some tooth sensitivity due to pulp changes provided by the H2O2 penetration into the pulp. To minimize these symptoms many dentists use NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen, as well as topical desensitizing gels based on 5% potassium nitrate and 2% sodium fluoride. The aim of this study is to evaluate the influence of these substances in expression of neuropeptides using immunohistochemical analysis. For this purpose, 72 rats will be divided into three groups according to the treatment: G1- control, G2- administration of ibuprofen 30 minutes before and after the bleaching treatment and every 12 hours till the period of analysis is completed, G3- topical application of desensitizing agent before the dental bleaching. All groups had the left maxilla without the bleaching agent application. Afterwards, they will be divided into three subgroups based on the period of analysis: immediately after the bleaching treatment, 24 and 48 hours after bleaching. After the euthanasia, the maxillae will be processed and analyzed using immunohistochemical analysis. The immunohistochemical analysis will be performed using indirect immunoperoxidase and the optico microscope (Optiphot-2, Nikon, Japão). The data will be submitted to the most appropriate statistical analysis at a 5% level of significance.
