This project propose the construction and characterization of carbon based gasdiffusion layer (GDL) with non-noble metal catalysts for gas phase CO2 reduction in a special designed photoelectrocatalysis reactor. The cathode consists of a GDL on which nanostructured carbons are deposited with different metal nanoparticles. The metal nanoparticles will be deposited on carbon surface by incipient wetness impregnation using an ethanolic solution containing the metal precursor(s). The CO2 reduction in gas phase will be performed using the developed electrode as cathode and a TiO2 nanotubes electrode as photoanode joint together by a proton-conductive membrane, in order to obtain products with high added value, as fuels, with 1 carbon atom or more. The photoelectrocatalytic reactor was designed by Perathoner's group with two compartments is made of Plexiglas and equipped with a quartz window for the illumination with a solar simulator. The products obtained will be identified by gas chromatographs. (AU)
