Abstract

The use of natural compounds has been widely explored and improved in recent decades. Facing the growing appeal of natural and organic products in the food and cosmetic industries, new sources of exploration are being discovered, and areas for research have been opened. One of these species is Copaifera spp., traditionally used by the native populations of the Amazon forest, and great commercial importance in the region. The use for pharmaceutical purposes is through its oleoresin, taken from its trunk, this resin oil can pass through various chemical processes, where the compounds that this study aims to evaluate the antimicrobial potential are obtained. To analyze the action, will be used the dilution broth method for determining the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC). From the oleoresin and isolated substances, we will also determine the Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC). These tests will be conducted on clinical standard strains and isolates from the dental clinic at the University of Franca. Concluding this research we hope to contribute to the creation of drugs and treatments for treat periodontal disease through drugs such as mouthwashes, irrigating substances for periodontal treatment, or even toothpastes, bringing a new alternative in the fight against the disease, contributing to a promising dentistry.
