Abstract

This research project is dedicated to the automatization of a helium closed cycle cryostat for the electroluminescence measurements in resonant tunneling diodes and transport measurements in semiconductor nanostructures with the incidence of light. For this, a special cold finger working at cryogenic temperatures, development of a program in Labview for acquisition and automation of electro-optical measurements will be built. Electrical current x voltage transport and electro-optical measurements in the region of resonance will be made as a function of temperature in the range of 8-300 K by the use of the available experimental facilities. Later, the experimental investigations will be initiated in GaAs/AlGaAs tunneling resonant diodes samples by means of the electronic transport, photoluminescence and electroluminescence techniques. The experimental results will be contrasted with theoretical models made by our coworkers from the Semiconductor Nanostructures Group of the Department of Physics - UFSCar. All the topics included along the project, such as, the introduction of the student in optical and transport experimental techniques, learning a modern and robust programming language, as well as the theoretical study of quantum systems with potential barriers, are the ingredients that will complement her theoretical and experimental classes to be taken along the year.
