Abstract

This project, with estimated duration of three months, to be held at the Transport and Mobility Laboratory, School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering, EPFL (Lausanne, Switzerland), falls within a research line in the scope of transport and spatial data analysis, introduced by the proponent since 2008. The project aims to continue the development of research that employs the use of geostatistics techniques to travel demand forecasting. The main objective is to propose an autologistic model for travel mode choice issues taking into account spatially correlated data. Initially, the analysis of the spatial structure of variable (dependent) will be held, by obtaining experimental variograms and adjusting theoretical variograms. Then, spatial covariates will be calculated considering the distances between observations, values of variables and parameters of the theoretical variogram adjusted previously. At the next research step, these covariates will be incorporated into the utility functions of each alternative (travel mode). Finally, the goodness of fit of the models proposed will be quantity by errors measures and nonparametric tests. For methodological validation purposes, the comparison of the models with traditional logit models will be carried out. The database to be used will be obtained from the Origin-Destination Survey undertaken in 2007/2008 in São Carlos city (SP - Brazil). It is expected to bring academics benefits for spatial travel demand analysis.
