Abstract

This research project aims to investigate and resume discussions on the genesis and formation of low river , marine and fluvial-marine terraces , to understand the dynamics in the landscape formation and transformation through spatial and geochronology of coastal surface covers at Santa Catherine region, of the lower course and the mouth of the river basins of Itapocu River and Araranguá (SC) in the Holocene. The proposed methodology reframe temporal and genetic lapses related to the evolution and deposition of low coastal terraces, surface coverage, based on allostratigraphy and absolute datings carried out by optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) through the procedures indicated by the SAR method (Single Aliquot regenerative-dose). To achieve the objectives, the form of analysis of the results will be guided in the systemic method, based on three levels of approaches to conducting geomorphological research proposed by Ab'Saber (1969): analysis of the subdivision of relief; analysis of the surface structure of the landscape and current morphodynamic analysis. The proposed hypothesis is to say that climate fluctuations caused by alternating glacial stages and interglacials during the Quaternary, promoted eustatic changes of the relative sea level through transgressions and marine regressions, responsible for devising recent low levels of terraces along channels river and the coast of Santa Catarina. This research is justified by present: original and fundamental contributions on the evolution of the Santa Catarina coastal landscape in the context of climate fluctuations; for contributing to the expansion of knowledge, use and application of technical LOE in Quaternary sediments; the lack on research using absolute dating methods; by socio-economic relevance can exert on policy management and mitigation of risks related to fluctuations in relative sea level.
