Abstract

At the present time, society virtually depends on energy generation in order to suply directly or indirectly the majority of their daily activities as lighting, transportation, entertainment, comunication, education and health care. As a response to concerns regarding climate change, the international energy scenario has been passing through constant changes targeting the mitigation of the anthropogenic negative impacts in the climate system with the reduction of the emissions of greenhouse gases through a gradual shift from a fossil fuel based energy grid to renewable sources of low carbon dioxide emissions. Although primarily founded in renewable sources, specially in hydropower, the Brazilian energy grid still presents problems in a complex conjecture, so that the solar photovoltaic generation is presented as an strategic energy alternative by many aspects.Brazil, due to its geographic location and extense territory, has one of the highest photovoltaic energy potentials of the world. One of the challenges to face for implementing of this technology in the country depends primarily of the improvement and dissemintaion of scientific knowledge and and empowerment of human resources and techlonogy inovation for the prices of this kind of energy to become each time more copetitive. The target of this proposal is to elucidate the influence of the geometry of incidence of the solar radiation in the performance of a photovoltaic panel as a function of the placement of the generation system. The expected results for this project may contribute to better understand the availability of solar energy in the study area and to allow the propagation of information to the public in general and energy sector stakeholders for the purpose of improving the conditions of grid connected solar power plants and increasing the efficiency of operation of currently operating plants, when the infrastructure becomes suitable for such.
