Abstract

Microgrids are promising alternatives to meet local demand and integrate renewable resources such as wind and solar energy, which reduces dependence on the grid. However, its operation is a challenging problem due to the need to adequately coordinate generation units (conventional and renewable), control equipment, and electric vehicles, considering their uncertain characteristics. Mathematical models will be developed for the optimal coordination of smart microgrids considering gas and electricity networks and flexibility options (coordinated charging of electric vehicles and hydrogen generation systems). The problem should be investigated under the context of energy markets (day-ahead market and real-time operation). Optimization techniques such as Stochastic and Robust Programming will be used to deal with uncertainties in the parameters present in the microgrid operation, such as electrical demand, wind and photovoltaic generation, and energy price, to make solutions more realistic. The models developed will contribute to the efficient coordination of modern energy networks, integrating distributed energy resources, which will reduce costs for the user, mitigate the impact on the environment, and improve the quality of service.
