Abstract

The increasing demand for energy, coupled with the need to transition to cleaner energy sources, has driven the emergence of microgrids as an effective solution to meet local energy needs more efficiently, sustainably, and using renewable sources. The control and management of microgrids pose significant challenges due to the complexity of integrating multiple energy sources, variable demand, and the need to ensure reliability and operational stability on a local scale while maintaining system resilience. Distributed control offers advantages such as increased resilience, scalability, efficiency, security, and enhanced data privacy, making it a versatile choice for complex systems. Therefore, the primary objective of this project is to develop a distributed mathematical optimization strategy for the problem of optimal operation of unbalanced three-phase microgrids using an adapted version of the Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM) algorithm. Through ADMM, the optimization process is distributed into subproblems without needing a central controller. Operational constraints, such as current and voltage magnitude limits, power flows, and distributed generation capacities, must be ensured by the proposed method. Additionally, the results should provide viable and optimized solutions without the need for a central controller.
