Decomposition and nutrient release from sugarcane straw in central-southern Brazil

Abstract

Sugarcane straw, before a problem for the mills, currently receives great prominence for its multi-purpose, being on the ground, with positive agronomic impacts, or in the industry, used for energy cogeneration or 2G ethanol. Considered the impacts on the ground, the objective of this research is to evaluate the rate of decomposition and release of nutrients from different sugarcane straw doses in center-southern Brazil. Additionally, it is intend to quantify the plant-soil nutrients transfer and estimate the nutritional export of straw removal from the soil. The study will be conduct in São Paulo, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul and Paraná states, using a randomized block design with destructive samples over time. Decomposed straw samples will be collect with 30, 120, 240 and 360 days, and soil samples from depths 0-2.5, 2.5-5, 5-10 cm, to evaluate the nutritional soil-plant transfer, and biochemistry and elementary straw characterization will be perform during installation and end of the experiment. The straw will come from RB867515 variety and 12 t ha-1 MS dose was defined as 100% of the remaining straw on the soil after crop harvest, and the remaining doses are 50, 25 and 0% straw starting from the initial dose. The data will be subject to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and average will be evaluate using multiple comparison test of Tukey (p <0.05). With results is expect to determine the straw decomposition rate and its correlation with edaphoclimatic factors of the study regions, allowing to estimate an optimal dose to be left on the soil, as well as nutritional export from straw.
