Abstract

The project aims to investigate the make up of Amazonian intellectual José Veríssimo, from its circulation in academic conferences and scientific contacts in Europe. The International Literary Congress (1880), held in Lisbon, José Veríssimo participated as a listener and newspaper correspondent of the "A Província do Pará", sending articles and reporting congress. In turn, it took place in Paris, the 10th Archaeological and Anthropological Congress (1889), in which Veríssimo presented a paper entitled "The Human Marajó and Ancient Amazon Civilization". There was also an exchange of correspondence with European intellectuals: Enrico Gligioli and Émile Guimet, respectively, of the Zoological Museum directors gave Vertebrati, the di Studi Supiori in Firenzi Institute, and Museé Guimet. Thus, we designed these displacements were forms of agency José Veríssimo as intellectual who thought and established literary and scientific joints from their knowledge of the Amazon.
