Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is defined as this injury for a period igual or more than three months, with structural or functional abnormalities of the kidney, with or without decreased glomerular filtration. Currently, the CKD has been considered a public health problem, patients with chronic kidney disease are exposed to the possibility of development for Chronic Kidney Disease Terminal (CKDT). These require therapies such as renal replacement therapy hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and renal transplantation. In Brazil, in 2013 90.8% of patients in chronic dialysis were being treated by hemodialysis. Hemodialysis patients are at high risk for the development of health care associated infections (HAIs), and the acquisition of multidrug-resistant microorganisms. Hand hygiene (HH) is one of the most important measures for the control of HAIs. The hands of the health team of professionals is the main route of transmission of exogenous infections primarily through invasive procedure. This study has the general objective to analyze the membership of the nursing team to HH practice in the five moments recommended by the World Health Organization for hemodialysis services. The data will be obtained through direct observation method of HH opportunities in a hemodialysis service in a city of São Paulo State. Study subjects will be nursing professionals active in service. In view of the increasing number of patients on dialysis and the importance of prevention of HAIs on hemodialysis, this study may reflect the improvement of quality of services, as well as the quality of life of chronic renal patients.
