Abstract

Fusariosis is the second most common fungal infection, with high infectivity rate in immunocompromised patients and high mortality rate in patients with persistent neutropenia. A strategy for prevention of fungal etiology diseases has been the use of probiotics, among these Lactobacillus rhamnosus. Therefore, the objective of this work is to verify, in vitro, the inhibitory activity of these probiotic bacteria on Fusarium solani. L. rhamnosus ATCC 1465 standard strain will be used in four different forms: 1) suspension with live L. rhamnosus; 2) suspension with L. rhamnosus inactivated by heat; 3) supernatant of suspension 2; 4) Filtrated supernatant of L. rhamnosus. Fusarium solani strain IOC 2163 will be plated in potato dextrose agar and a suspension of 0.4 x 106 to 5 x 106 CFU / ml will be obtained by spectrophotometry. After that, these suspensions will be used in different assays to verify the inhibitory activity of L. rhamnosus on Fusarium, by using four different methods: Diffusion in Agar; Agar "sandwich"; Dilution in Agar and Microdilution test.
