Pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus) is one of the most studied and cultivated species mainly in the southeast and central west of the country, whereas to present ideal characteristics for aquaculture. With the full development of aquaculture in the country and the world, we look for more and more an efficient production, less environmental impact and consequently increased profitability. One of the main factors that can help in this efficiency is the correct feeding and balanced supplied to the animal, since it corresponds to a large portion of production costs and is directly related to water pollution. In the diet, protein is one of the main responsible for the high cost and environment pollution. Thus, the present study aimed to estimate, by the deletion method, the requirement of essential amino acids for juveniles of pacu in order to ensure better and more efficient use of the provided protein, improving the productivity, profitability and reducing impacts on the environment. So fish with initial average weight of 5,0g will be distributed in thirty three 180L tanks connected to a closed water recirculation system equipped with mechanical and biological filtration, water heater and aeration. The experiment will last 120 days and will consist of 11 experimental diets with three replications, distributed in a completely randomized design. One of the experimental diets will be the control diet and the other diets will present the deletion of 45% of the essential amino acids to be tested. The determination of the requirements of essential amino acids will be performed by the ratio between the nitrogen retention by pacu and the amount of the amino acid deleted in the evaluated diet.
