Abstract This research project aims to investigate the usage of energy storage systems to improve the performance of the operation of power distribution networks in the presence of distributed generation. The storage systems to be studied are the batteries. The main motivations are based on the over and undervoltages caused by the distribution generation in the following conditions: (i) when the feeder load is minimum and the power injected by the distributed generators is maximum, serious overvoltages are likely to happen; and (ii) the sudden disconnection of the distributed generators may cause severe voltage variations. Thus, it will be investigated how to employ batteries to mitigate the possible negative effects of the previously mentioned conditions. Issues like batteries capacity, charge and discharge and their locations will be assessed. It is expect that the results of this project help with strategies to incentive and justify the usage of batteries with distributed generation in low voltage networks, and also improve the performance of the power distribution networks. | |
