Abstract

Numerous studies have been performed on the applicability of tyre pyrolytic oil in engines, boilers and furnaces, due to its physicochemical similarities with diesel oil. However, these studies have been limited to the combustion process and the pollutant emissions, leaving aside the detailed study of the atomization process, which improves the combustion conditions when it is optimized, significantly reducing emissions of particulate matter, as it was found in the literature. The present work proposes the study of the atomization process of blends of tyre pyrolytic oil (TPO) and diesel oil, applying a dimensional analysis of the main factors that affect the phenomenon to obtain correlation functions which determine the optimal conditions of atomization process. Two types will used: a of pressure (pressure swirl) and another of two fluids (Y-jet), in order to evaluate the technical aspects in the formation of the spray. The development of the experimental stage will be carried out on the facilities of the Combustion, Propulsion and Energy Laboratory (LCPE) of the Technological Institute of Aeronautics (ITA), in "São José dos Campos".
