Abstract

This study aims to standardize absorptiometry technique by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and to apply it to model the main chemical constituents of fish during the development stages. The first study will be conducted to obtain the standard equation of the matching of the values estimated by DXA for pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus) and tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). The chemical composition will be determined by the DXA method while using the comparative slaughter (CS) technique. Through the relationship between the values obtained by both techniques will generate the (straight-line equation) and Y values to be estimated corresponding to the CS and the X axis predictors values obtained by DXA. This relationship will apply for each chemical component (water, protein, ash and fat). In the second study will be characterized in the growth body curve of the main chemical components in a suitable and not limiting environment for animals (fish). The experiments will be conducted at the Aquaculture Center of UNESP (during the course of the thematic project), where the fish will be monitored and scanned by DXA over 12 months. In the third study the results to be obtained will allow to define the genetic potential of each individual, the average population and its variability, and will enable the development of a spreadsheet in Excel Visual Basic language that determines the body composition in real time where the input variables are generated by the DXA data and output variables of the chemical components (protein, water, fat and ash).
