Abstract

Psychologist's practice in Health and Social Rights public policies in Brazil has great social relevance. Nevertheless, often these fields are not properly emphasized in professional education. Among undergraduate Psychology programs in Brazil, the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar) course stands out for following the "learn how to learn" principle and for offering practical experiences from the beginning of the course. However, it is not clear if the opportunities offered during the course are properly responding to the demands for these fields - Psychology and Public Policies. The present study aims to investigate aspects of the relation between education and professional practice in the Brazilian public policies of Health and Social Assistance (SUS and SUAS) of UFSCar graduates (2009-2013). The objectives are: 1) Characterize the professional field of the graduates; 2) Indicate those who have already worked in SUS or SUAS; 3) Characterize the practice in these public policies in terms of place, theoretical approach, activities, and conditions for carrying them; 4) Investigate relevant elements from education to the practice in SUS and SUAS. A qualitative-descriptive-interpretative methodology is proposed, privileging the comprehension of the processes and phenomena. Aiming the specific objectives, two online questionnaires (Q1 and Q2; Google Forms) were developed, to characterize: Q1 - the education and professional practice of the graduates (answered by all the participants); Q2 - their practice in SUS or SUAS and the education effects (answered by those who have already worked in public policies). In order to perform adjustments, new graduates will evaluate the instruments. The data will be submitted to descriptive and interpretative analysis (content analysis). It is expected to contribute to the reflection of the psychologists' qualifications and to provide improvement of the UFSCar course.
