Abstract

With this project, we aim to analyze the texts produced by the Brazilian media that explore, in the field of national politics, the representations we share about reading. In these texts there are some references to literacy practices, or their absence, in the construction of the profile of politicians like Fernando Henrique Cardoso, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Dilma Roussef. Subsidized by the French Discourse Analysis and by principles of Cultural History of Reading, we intend to analyze these representations in order to answer questions such as: what does the media say about the literacy practices of these politicians and how the media does it? What are these discursive formations and where do these representations regarding literacy practices and reading come from? What does the media say when it decides to explore the reader's skills of politicians? The corpus of this research will be selected in the newspapers Folha de São Paulo, Estadão, and in the magazines Veja, Caros Amigos and Carta Capital.
