Abstract

Phenolic compounds are present in vegetables, and caffeic acid (CA) a derivative of cinnamic acids, belonging to the class of phenylpropanoid. The AC is shown as a powerful antioxidant, acting from the beginning to the propagation of oxidative chain. In vitro tests also showed that the antimicrobial activity of propolis is linked to the caffeic acid present in the composition. The aim of this work is to obtain results that evaluate the antimicrobial capacity of caffeic acid, for use in dermal formulations such as emulsion systems that are widely used by having greater advantages in systems for delivery of active and polymeric films that represent forward innovation products traditional by offering greater convenience and ease of use and transportation, while maintaining efficacy and safety required for a product for skin care and as for the antimicrobial activity assessment known techniques are used, such as microdilution plate ninety-six well spectrophotometer and reading, with the purpose of obtaining the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of the compound.
