Abstract

Currently there is great concern for the use and conservation of water resources. In this regard agriculture has an important role due to the significant water consumption. Moreover, they are worrying climate change characterized by veranículos compromising agricultural production. Thus, we search the most efficient use of water, either through drought-resistant plants, or cultivation in conditions that increase the efficiency of water use by plants. Thus, research is being directed to the silicon use because it is an element capable of increasing the resistance of plants to drought stress. However, although it is known their beneficial effect in reducing the damage caused by water stress in plants, they do not know the gene mechanisms, physiological, hormonal, enzymatic and structural related to this element. Thus, the objective of this research is to verify possible relations with silicon genes, enzymes and hormones involved in reducing damage caused by water stress, as well as their deposition in plant tissues, affecting the physiology of the species. The characteristics evaluated are: gene expression, activity of peroxidase, superoxide dismutase and catalase, the proline osmolytes and soluble sugars, the abscisic acid (ABA), silicon in plant tissues, gas exchange, water use efficiency, fluorescence and dry mass the different organs of tomato cultivar Micro-Tom (MT).
