Abstract

This study aims at the systematic analysis of the terminology and conceptual apparatus employed by Herodotus when describing the Achaemenid Persian Empire (taken as a political entity). Greek political vocabulary is examined and specified. This study aims to verify if Greek sources had developed an idea of empire similar to the modern one and also the consequences and historical meaning of the emergence of this idea. (AU)
