Abstract
The subtribe Euptychiina (Nymphalidae: Satyrinae) is composed by approximately 400 species distributed almost exclusively in the American continent (Neartic and Neotropical regions) with only one species representing the group in the Asian continent (Oriental region). Due to be basically composed by species that present a wing color pattern predominantly brown, the identification to generic and specific levels of specimens from this subtribe becomes very difficult and that can be one of the factors contributing to the confuse taxonomic scenario that domains the group at present day. Several phylogenetic works have been published in the last years as an attempt to solve the evolutionary relationships among species and therefore contribute to a better taxonomic organization, but what was demonstrated with these works was the chaos in which the genera are settled, with most of them appearing as non-natural groups. Many species were described and classified in genera in which they do not have a common ancestral relationship and only now this chaos is beginning to be solved. The propose of the present research project is to work with several of these genera, in an integrative approach, using mainly molecular and morphological data, aiming a phylogenetic and taxonomic resolution of these genera and describing new species and relocating other species to their correct genera. It is expected that with the obtained data a stabilization of at least some of the Euptychiina genera studied would be reached and therefore a better comprehension of the evolution and biogeographical patterns of the entire group.
