Abstract

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a worldwide epidemic and may evolve in the long term, to steatohepatitis (NASH), fibrosis, cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). There is an immediate need not only to better understand its pathogenesis, but also to develop an effective therapy to prevent progression to more severe forms, as well as, to evaluate methods that methods that enable to differentiate benign lesions from malignant, to determine tumor development phase and monitor the success of the treatments used.
